“Clues to Diagnoses in Emergency Departments” by Dr Aziz Aboo
Dr Aboo was head of the Groote Schuur Hospital Emergency Unit (within the Department of Medicine) from 1984 to 2008, and during this time taught and supervised 1000s of medical students, junior doctors and registrars. Dr Aboo’s vast knowledge of clinical signs and his astute diagnostic reasoning were legendary and many who were taught by him still recall the clinical “pearls” and diagnostic approaches he generously shared. We share here a link to the electronic version of the handbook he published, including some of these, in 2008. While certain of the treatment protocols have changed since 2008, Dr Aboo’s approaches to clinical presentations and differential diagnosis remain a valuable resource for medical students and doctors in practice in EDs today.
