Dr Iekram Alli
Dr Alli obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Mysore (India) in 1996. After the completion of his medical degree, Dr Alli returned to South Africa, where he held two registrar positions in surgery and orthopaedics between the years 1998 and 2000 at two state hospitals in Kwa-Zulu Natal (Prince Mysheni Hospital and R.K. Khans Hospital respectively). After consulting as a general practitioner for several years, Dr Alli obtained his Diploma in Forensic Medicine and Clinical Forensics (Dip For Med/Clin. Path(SA)) and was appointed as a registrar in the Forensic Pathology Services (University of Kwa-Zulu Natal) in 2005. Subsequently, Dr Alli went on to hold the position of Chief Medical Officer (Department of Health, Ugu District, KZN) and Manager of the Forensic Services (South Coast, KZN). During this time, he obtained his certificate in Medical Law (UNISA).
In 2013, Dr Alli relocated to Cape Town as a medical registrar within the Division of Forensic Medicine (University of Cape Town) and began studying towards his FC For Path (SA) certification, which was officially awarded in 2016. In the same year, Dr Alli also obtained his postgraduate diploma in Forensic Odontology the only known medical doctor to have this Diploma. He has been on television for the work he did on the South Coast Serial Murderer and radio shows educating people on Human Trafficking. Currently, Dr Alli is a senior lecturer, Specialist and Head of the Odontology Unit within the Division of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (UCT). He is very active against Human Trafficking and passionate about forensic odontology. Dr Alli also leads the Social responsive club that carries out various charity and donation events from food to clothing on behalf of the Department.
