Dr Violet Murunga
Dr. Murunga has the following postgraduate training: MOH in Epidemiology (Florida International University, US), PhD in Research Uptake (University of Liverpool, UK).
Dr. Murunga joined AFIDEP in 2011. Dr. Murunga designs, leads and implements initiatives aimed at strengthening and institutionalising responsive, equitable and inclusive evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) in development decisions in Africa across various sectors, including health, gender and energy. She has several publications in the field of EIDM.
She has expertise in conducting systematic and rapid evidence reviews, gender analysis, packaging and communicating evidence, policy and media engagement and strengthening the EIDM capacity of policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders and their institutions. Dr. Murunga is now leading one of three Hubs that are part of a partnership funded by IDRC that aims to institutionalise responsive, equitable and inclusive EIDM policymaking in Africa, focusing on reproductive health, clean energy and climate and health nexus - the Learning together to advance Evidence and Equity in Policymaking to achieve the SDGs in Africa (Africa LEEPS). The partnership, which was initiated in 2023 for 2 years, will continue for another two years until 2027.
