The NITAG Support Hub (NISH) at the University of Cape Town (UCT), in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and JSI/CHOICES 2.0, is launching an important webinar series for National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) across Africa. The series is titled, "Applying Vaccine Prioritization Strategies for Optimized Public Health Outcomes".

About Our Webinar Series

This series features five distinct sessions designed to improve knowledge and competency in the use of the NVI-PST (resources and toolkit) for National Immunization Programs (NIP). Running from October 2025 to January 2026, each 90-minute webinar will be conducted in English and French.

What We Aim to Achieve

The series is designed to:

  • Provide a structured learning pathway on prioritization and optimization concepts.
  • Introduce and demonstrate the NVI-PST to support contextual country decision-making.
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer exchange and sharing of lessons learned across the region.
  • Support countries in adapting prioritization and optimization approaches to their context.

Series Schedule and Content

This five-part series is scheduled from October 2025 to January 2026, with sessions held on Wednesdays in English and on Thursdays in French. The series kicks off on October 8, 2025, with an overview of new vaccine introduction, prioritization, and the role of the NITAG in these key decisions. This will be followed by a session introducing the NVI-PST tool, its methodology, and how it complements existing decision-support resources.

Subsequent sessions will provide a deeper dive into the NVI-PST tool, focusing on defining and adapting criteria to local contexts and summarizing evidence for recommendations. Participants will also explore the tool's practical application through discussions on feasibility, sequencing scenarios, and lessons learned from other countries. The series will conclude with an in-depth session on vaccine program optimization, reviewing potential vaccine switches and the criteria that trigger such discussions.

By the end of the series, NITAG members will be equipped to apply NVI-PST in their own contexts, strengthen their ability to guide vaccine introduction and optimization decisions, and share lessons across the region.
