FOGARTY INTERNATIONAL CENTER HIVRT D43 and HIV K43 Grantee Network Meeting
4 to 5 October 2021
The 2nd annual meeting for D43 HIV research training programs and K43 grantees was held as a virtual meeting, by the Fogarty International Centre. The organiser was the Geetha P. Bansal, Ph.D. Program Director, HIV Research and Research Training Programs, Division of International Training and Research, FIC, NIH.
Two of our UCT D43 Fogarty fellows presented their research projects at this meeting:
- Dr Linda Boloko – Clinical PhD candidate (Supervisor: G Meintjes)
Title: Blood Xpert Ultra
- Ms Phuti Choshi – Science PhD Candidate (Supervisor: J Peter)
Title: Drug hypersensitivity in HIV/TB co-infection
Professor Graeme Meintjes, Principal Investigator of the UCT Fogarty D43 Training Program, chaired one of the sessions for the K43 grantees. Professor Jonny Peter who serves on the UCT D43 Fogarty committee also presented an overview of his work on “IMmune-mediated Adverse drug Reactions In African HIV endemic setting (IMARI-SA study)” funded by a K43 award.
This was a well-attended meeting giving the FIC D43 trainees and K43 grantees an opportunity to hear and discuss the HIV research supported by Fogarty in many countries including Peru, Philippines, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
