Prof. Graeme Meintjes (PI of HATTP) represented our Training Program at this annual meeting held at the Stone House Building on the NIH Campus, in Bethesda, Washington, from 25th-26th July 2019. The Meeting was attended by PIs and Faculty of HIV Training Programs from countries across the globe. Each Program had the opportunity to provide a short update on their progress in meeting training objectives and some of the challenges they have faced. There were also sessions that allowed for cross-cutting discussions on issues such as hosting multiple training programs at a single institution, building and sustaining research capacity, and identifying the training gaps. Funding opportunities such as the K43 Emerging Global Leader Awards were presented by Fogarty staff. Dr Lloyd Mulenga from Zambia gave a plenary talk on “The Status of the HIV Epidemic in Africa”, which sparked a lively discussion. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for networking and exchange of ideas between training programs.
