Advanced FATE Workshop
The Advanced Focus Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography (FATE) workshop is designed for clinicians who have already completed a Basic FATE course and wish to further develop their echocardiographic skills to include comprehensive imaging and Doppler-based assessment.
This workshop enables non-cardiologists to perform in-depth cardiopulmonary evaluations and contribute to the optimisation of emergent cardiac and respiratory conditions at the bedside.
🩺 Who Should Attend?
The course is suitable for experienced medical practitioners who already have foundational ultrasound training, including:
-
Anaesthesiologists
-
Intensivists
-
Emergency Physicians
-
Internal Medicine Physicians
-
Surgeons
Pre-course requirement:
Completion of a Basic FATE course (or equivalent basic cardiac ultrasound course) is mandatory for attendance.
📚 E-Learning Requirement
Before attending the hands-on session, participants must complete the Advanced FATE e-learning module via USabcd.org. This 8-hour online component covers:
-
Extended 2D imaging views
-
Basic and advanced Doppler principles
-
Pressure estimation techniques
-
Cardiac output calculations
-
Diastolic function evaluation
📝 Note: E-learning must be completed prior to the workshop to ensure meaningful hands-on practice.
🔬 Workshop Format
In small groups of 4–5 participants, clinicians will engage in supervised scanning on live models, applying advanced techniques in a focused, practical setting.
Covered content includes:
-
Review of Basic FATE skills and scanning windows
-
Extended 2D cardiac views
-
Introduction to Doppler physics and acquisition
-
Application of Continuous and Pulsed Wave Doppler to:
-
Estimate pressures (e.g., RVSP)
-
Measure cardiac output
-
Assess diastolic function
-
-
Clinical scenario training using advanced echocardiographic interpretation
🎓 Assessment & Certification
-
Participants will undergo a practical assessment during the workshop to demonstrate competence in image acquisition and measurement.
-
Digital certificate of attendance and CPD points will be awarded upon successful completion.
