Impacts of political, acquisition, and consumption environment changes
Work Package 3
How do drivers shape drinking patterns/behaviours, health outcomes, and the alcohol economy?
Work Package 3 (WP3) examines how political, commercial, and community-level drivers shape drinking patterns, health outcomes, and the broader alcohol economy in South Africa and Botswana. It brings together evidence from earlier work packages to understand the real-world impacts of alcohol environments on individuals, communities, and health systems.
This work includes surveys to assess drinking patterns, behaviours, and their associated health outcomes, providing insight into the relationship between alcohol use and harm. In addition, mathematical modelling is used to estimate how potential policies and interventions could influence drinking behaviours, reduce alcohol-related harm, and affect alcohol sales and economic outcomes. By assessing these impacts, WP3 provides evidence to help policymakers and stakeholders understand the potential benefits and trade-offs of different alcohol control strategies.
