Research Topics
Our research in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) comprises the focus areas:
- Neuroimaging
- Cardiac MRI
- MRI technology development and
- MRI physics
In the first instance, non-invasive MRI methods are being used to advance our understanding of the long-term effects and treatment outcomes of diseases that present major public health problems to our country, such as cardiac disease, HIV and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). South Africa has the largest absolute number of people living with HIV/AIDS and the highest reported incidence rates of FAS in the world. Second, through our research we have provided training and capacity building in this highly specialised area, both in terms of training people in advanced image analysis methodologies for clinical research and in MRI technology.
A selection of posters on our research can be found on the conference output page.
