Welcome to visiting researcher Dr Jerry Ochola
Welcome to Dr Jerry Ochola from Moi University in Kenya to a nine-month research visit to the UCT's Mechanobiology Lab funded through an Africa Research Excellence Fund fellowship.
Dr Ochola is a Lecturer in computational modelling at Moi University. He holds a PhD in Engineering from Ghent University in Belgium and undertook a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Pavia, Italy.
At UCT, Dr Ochola pursues research on the mechanics of tissue-regenerative polymer scaffolds for cardiovascular therapies. The project is a collaboration with Prof Deon Bezuidenhout, director of the Cardiaovascular Research Unit in UCT's Department of Surgery, and Prof Thomas Franz, leading the Mechanobiology Lab.
In addition to holding the AREF fellowship, Dr Ochola was recently awarded a three-year Isdo Lomso Fellowship of the Stellenbosch Inistitute for Advanced Study.
