PhD alumnus Adam van Niekerk was named one of three finalists for the I.I. Rabi Young Investigator Award of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) - given for original basic science research in magnetic resonance.

Adam graduated with a PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2019 under the supervision of Prof Ernesta Meintjes and is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.

Importantly, the nomination is based on his PhD work which was published in Magnetic Resonance in Medicine: "Toward "plug and play" prospective motion correction for MRI by combining observations of the time varying gradient and static vector fields".

The selection of Adam is an outstanding honour since the ISMRM is the premiere society for MRI research globally with more than 7000 papers typically presented at the Annual Meeting. The award winner will be announced on Thursday 13 August at the ISMRM & SMRT virtual conference and exhibition.

Congratulations to Adam! We are very proud of you and are holding fingers crossed that you receive a ISMRM I.I. Rabi Young Investigator award.

We also wish to acknowledge Prof Ernesta Meintjes for her role in Adam’s research which has led to him being a finalist for this award.
