Study on analytical model of the mechanics of early invasion of a merozoite into a human erythrocyte by T Abdalrahman and T Franz published in Journal of Biological Physics.

A continuum model based on contact mechanics was developed to understand the mechanics of merozoite invasion into human erythrocytes. The model allows evaluating the indentation force and work as well as the contact pressure between the merozoite
and erythrocyte during early stage of invasion. At an invagination of 10% of the parasite length, the model predicted an indentation force of 1.3 x 10-11 N and an indentation work of 1 x 10-18 J.
