Three doctoral students in the School graduated in July 2022
Congratulations to Drs Ntsiki Mapukata (Public Health Medicine Division), Mweete Nglazi (Health Economics Division) and Victoria Iyun (Epidemiology and Biostatistics Division) on graduating with their PhDs. Ntsiki graduated on Monday 18 July at the University of the Witwatersrand and Victoria and Mweete graduated on Friday 22 July at UCT.
Ntsiki’s thesis title: “Making a Rural Workforce: Exploring the Habitus of Health Sciences Students from Rural South Africa”
Mweete’s thesis title: “An analysis of overweight and obesity in South Africa: The case of women of childbearing age”
Victoria’s thesis title: “Universal antiretroviral therapy (ART) for infants and young children living with HIV: assessing the effect of guideline changes on ART initiation characteristics and treatment outcomes in resource-limited settings”

These achievements attest to the growing strength and popularity of the doctoral programme, which has 90 students pursuing their research in the various fields of public health and family medicine and registered in the School.
A special thank you to Assoc. Prof Susan Cleary (Programme Convenor) and Mrs Latiefa Adams (Programme Administrator) for running this programme in the School and to all the supervisors in the various divisions of the School and beyond for their academic contributions and mentorship of these students.
