Another accolade for Occupational Medicine at UCT
Congratulations to Dr Itumeleng Ntatamala on receiving the SASOM Medal for the FCPHM (Occ Med) in the Colleges of Medicine of SA that was awarded during the graduation ceremony held on Thursday 19 May 2022.
Itumeleng is the fifth recipient of the South African Society of Occupational Medicine (SASOM) medal for the best student in the fellowship examinations in 2021.
Prof Mohamed Jeebhay, head of the Division of Occupational Medicine, also received the FCPHM Fellowship by Peer Review during the ceremony. He noted that all 4 previous medals for this national fellowship exam have been awarded to UCT students since he initiated the MMed (Occupational Medicine) specialist training programme at UCT in 2004. The UCT programme is the largest in the country and has graduated 35% of all candidates who have sat for this examination over this period.
He commended Itumeleng for keeping up this tradition and being a role model for achieving excellence in the pursuit of your postgraduate studies in occupational medicine as well as being an inspiration to other students in the Occupational Medicine Division.
