Indiscriminate and widespread inappropriate use of disinfectants are hazardous to health
The Occupational Medicine Division has been at the forefront of highlighting the inappropriate disinfectant practices that are being promoted by commercial companies in the midst of COVID-19. The statement released by the National Occupational Health and Safety Stream strongly discourages the use of disinfection tunnels and spray booths and does not endorse or require ‘deep cleaning’ that involves fumigation, demisting or fogging of work areas where positive COVID-19 individuals have been identified. The adverse respiratory health effects associated with diverse cleaning agents is well documented in a recent review on this subject.
