The 7th Annual School Research Day held on Thursday 12 September 2019 was opened by Prof Sue Harrison, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Internationalisation.

Our Research Day serves to showcase the incredible research done by our staff and students, build good relationships and make links with different research projects. It was well attended with over 40 oral research and seven student poster presentations.  These presentations covered many grounds across the diverse fields in public health and family medicine and indicated a growing research enterprise at the School of Public Health and Family.

Recipients of student awards for Best Poster Presentations were:

Shani de Beer, Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics for the Best Poster by an MPH student for her poster entitled Completeness of maternal HIV testing and repeat testing in Cape Town, South Africa: A longitudinal analysis"

Abraham Opare, Division of Public Health Medicine for the Best Poster by a PhD student for his poster entitled Effectiveness of school vision screening programs in reducing uncorrected refractive error among children in low and middle-income countries-Systematic Review"

Tahira Kootbodien, Division of Public Health Medicine for the Best Poster by a PhD student for her poster entitled The association between organophosphate pesticide exposure and attempted suicide: a structural equation modelling approach"
