On Mandela Day, 18 July 2019, CIDER and the Division of Epidemiology & Biostatistics supported the Gugulethu Midwife Obstetric Unit to provide a meal for women coming for their antenatal care. MOU and research staff put their hands together to prepare and distribute soup and sandwiches which were welcomed by the patients on this rainy winter day. Also in Gugulethu on Mandela Day, research team members of the B-positive (a large  population based evaluation of expanded antiretroviral therapy access in pregnancy) and PreP-PP (evaluating the uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis to prevent HIV in pregnant and postpartum women) presented their research projects at the Gugulethu-UCT Research Indaba. The Indaba was organised by the iALARM (Using Information to Align Services and Link and Retain Men in the HIV Cascade) team at UCT to promote learning and discussion of new research on health and health services in the Gugulethu Community.
