SATVI supports food garden at Avian Park Clinic for Mandela Day
For Mandela Day the South African Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative (SATVI) team, under leadership of Professors Mark Hatherill and Tom Scriba, marked Mandela Day supporting the establishment of a community vegetable garden at the Avian Park Clinic in Worcester. The day’s program included making meals for clinic visitors and setting up the newly established clinic garden.
The Avian Park Clinic is located in an area with a high TB burden and the garden will contribute to nutrition support programs for TB patients at the clinic.
The project was made possible by CHEP, who donated bins for plant beddings, Lasher tools who donated gardening tools, staff of Avian Park Clinic and local workers in the Community Workers Program, who did the terrain preparation. They will take over the care and maintenance of the garden going forward.
