Through in class and community sessions, students are taught about health systems. In class, this covers organization and the role of the district health system; the process of decision making and priority setting; quality improvement in the health system; and the spectrum of care including palliative care. In community sessions, students have scheduled home visits to patient’s homes to understand how they interact with the health system, visits to Family Practitioner (FP) practices, which are assessed through written reports on a patient case study and a home visit report. Students also have sessions at a palliative care clinical facility for hands on experience of the multidisciplinary management of palliative care patients.
