Call for applications: Research stays 2023
Members of National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) in the WHO Africa Region can now apply for research stays at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa in 2023.
NITAG members can stay at the university up to one month and make full use of its facilities, mentorship and opportunities to strengthen and expand their skills in vaccinology and EIDM, including the evidence-to-recommendation (EtR) process. The research stays are facilitated by NISH, with flights and accommodation fully funded.
The NITAG members research stays are offered bi-annually and require in-person attendance.
Applications close on 15 February 2023. Successful applicants will be notified by 15 March 2023.
Who is eligible?
- NITAG members and secretariat members from countries in the WHO Africa Region
- Candidates must be proficient in written and spoken English
Opportunities for scholars during the research stay:
- Involvement in current NISH projects, e.g. the development of case studies, preparation for vaccinology and EIDM training seminars, development of EtR, systematic reviews and meta-analyses
- Access to UCT library training resources and seminars
- Training in the use of NISH tools, e.g. the library guide and evidence gap maps
- Training and mentorship from our collaborators, e.g. how to do a rapid review (Cochrane)
What we expect from scholars:
- Involvement in pre-planning, e.g. identifying goals for in-person training, scoping of EIDM/vaccinology ecosystem in your country
- Utilise resources and expertise of NISH and collaborators
- Involvement in post-training mentorship support
Practicalities
- Funding: NISH funding for flights and accommodation
- Duration: One month maximum in-person, plus pre-arrival planning
- Closing date: Applications close on 15 February 2023
- Successful applicants will be notified by 15 March 2023

- A motivation letter detailing the specific aims and desired outcomes of your research stay and how the stay will assist in strengthening the EIDM capacity of your NITAG
- Your CV, maximum two pages
- A support letter from your supervisor/line manager
