Prof Jahit Sacarlal

Professor Jahit Sacarlal (PhD) is a Professor in Public Health/Microbiology and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM), Mozambique. During his professional career, he has focused on teaching and researching the development of drugs and vaccines related to diseases with a significant impact on Mozambique, like malaria and tuberculosis.

Since 2013, Prof. Sacarlal has been chair of the National Immunization Technical Advisory Board (CoPI) in Mozambique. From 2017 to 2021, he was a board member of the GNN NITAG Network (WHO). From 2014 to 2019, he led the Department of Microbiology at UEM and developed and implemented laboratory capacity projects and research at the Faculty of Medicine and in Mozambique more broadly. He also maintains strong collaborations with international institutions and has ongoing funding from the EDCTP, NIH, SIDA and other funders.
