Nakita Laing (Verkijk)
I completed my undergraduate BSc at Stellenbosch University. In 2009, I moved to UCT and the Division of Human Genetics and have become part of the “HumGen” Family. While here I have completed by (Med) Honours and recently my Masters in Genetic Counselling, together with my internship. Following my internship I worked part-time with the division performing clinics but I was also involved with the Department of Medicine and Cardiology. I was part of a research group looking at inherited cardiomyopathies and arrhythmia’s together with an H3Africa project researching Rheumatic heart disease. In March 2014, I was fortunately appointed as Groote Schuur’s first full-time employed Genetic Counsellor, where I get to enjoy seeing patients at Groote Schuur, Red Cross Children’s hospital as well as perform outreach to LSEN schools and visit area’s in the greater Western Cape region. Please visit our clinical page for more details on clinics and contact information.
