Bronwen Davies currently holds the position of Chief Forensic Toxicologist within the Western Cape Government: Forensic Pathology Services (FPS). She leads the Forensic Toxicology Unit (FTU), which she started up in the Division of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2015. In addition to her service-based work, she also works as a lecturer and supervisor of post-graduate students at UCT. Previously, she studied chemistry and physiology at UCT before receiving a Fulbright Scholarship to George Washington University in Washington D.C. to complete her Masters in Forensic Toxicology. She gained expertise at the D.C. Medical Examiner’s Office and subsequently returned to Cape Town, where she now resides, to develop a new post-mortem toxicology service for FPS.

As a young scientist, her goals are to empower the forensic toxicological profession within South Africa; while developing and strengthening international research collaboration and partnerships. Her research interests lie particularly in post-mortem toxicology and drug-facilitated sexual assault and the translational use of research findings into service development and public health initiatives. When not working, Bronwen enjoys travelling, hiking and being in nature and doing yoga.
