Schistosomiasis Expert Justin Komguep Nono
Dr Komguep Nono is the group leader of the Immunobiology of Helminth Infections research group in the Division of Immunology. His research focuses on the interactions between vertebrate hosts and helminth parasites, a group of parasites that affects and cause suffering in at least a billion of humans worldwide - Helminth Immunobiology - J Nono.
Dr Komguep Nono was recently appointed Co-chair of the Global Schistosomiasis Alliance (GSA) Research Working Group. The GSA is an all-inclusive alliance of partner organizations and stakeholders to mobilise the growing momentum to eliminate schistosomiasis. Partners in the alliance range from government departments, non-governmental organizations, research institutes, philanthropic funding organizations, and industry.The GSA is not limited to partner organizations but also includes individuals, research groups and different networks, collaborating together as a community. It serves as the convening, enabling and coordinating platform for the partners and stakeholders working to control and eliminate schistosomiasis. Read more - GSA - Research Working Group
In October 2019, Dr Komguep Nono was also selected as a new World Health Organization (WHO) expert on schistosomiasis for initiation on the optimisation of the WHO schitosomiasis program. He attended the WHO meeting in Brazzaville, Congo where he was chosen due to his accomplishments in Helminth research and his strong advocacy of local capacity building in sub-Saharan Africa.
