Malika Gabier joined the Division of Immunology (DOI) this year as a MSc student, she is part of the Bill Horsnell's group and has spent her previous years studying at CPUT and UCT. We welcome her with an interview about her studies at the DOI and few personal questions.

Cape Peninsula University of Technology – undergrad ND: Biotechnology

University of Cape Town – BSc (MedSc) Hons Immunology and infectious diseases

Which research group are you part of?

Horsnell's group

What is your project?

I am studying how maternal helminth infection before pregnancy imprints on offspring immune system.  

What attracted you to come to the DOI?

The research outputs of the department and the Horsnell group as well as the extremely established and exceptionally talented academics.

What are your goals at the DOI?

To become a well-rounded research scientist, in many areas, especially in Immunology. To generate good and reliable data that would translate into useful treatments; which would essentially help improve human health.  

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

To face and overcome the challenges in my project that would ultimately contribute to science and society. 

Any interesting hobbies?

Squash, hiking, painting
