MSc (2020-2021) Scholarship for 2020-2022 at Biomedical Research and Innovation Platform (BRIP), Parow, Cape Town

A South Africa – Taiwan Joint Science and Technology Research Cooperation funded by the National Research Foundation of South Africa has made available a 2-year MSc scholarship. The primary aim of the proposed research is to evaluate the lipid lowering, antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory effects of synthetic aspalathin, a flavonoid isolated from rooibos. The study will employ advanced cell culture and animal models in combination with proteomics and genomics, to identify specific biological pathways relevant to aspalathin as a potential druggable antidiabetic and lipid lowering drug candidate.
