FHS Research Stimulus Award

The Faculty Research Committee (FRC) has committed a budget to research stimulus awards. These are once-off awards that a staff member/Centre/Unit can apply for during their tenure at UCT. Awards will be made in 3 major categories:
Category 1: Mid-Career Stimulus Grant
Eligibility: Application for funding must be made by UCT permanent academic staff member OR UCT joint permanent academic staff member in the Faculty of Health Sciences within 5-10 years of obtaining their PhD or highest qualification.
Category 2: Clinical Research Stimulus Grant
Eligibility: Application for funding must be made by a permanent academic staff; or Joint PGCW/UCT academic staff in the Faculty of Health Sciences on UCT Conditions of Service (excluding registrars) working in clinical research fields. This category is open for clinical researchers only.
Category 3: Research Centre/Unit Stimulus Grant/Established Researchers
Eligibility: Application for funding must be made by a Centre/Unit which is formally recognized as a research entity by UCT OR an Established Researcher who doesn't qualify under Category 1.
Award information: The intention of this award is to stimulate novel research areas to provide data to support further grant applications. All staff members on permanent academic appointment conditions (including SFARs) are eligble for this grant.
Value and Allowable Costs: Three awards of up to R250,000 will be made annually, with 1 award per category. Any costs that are justifiable as part of the project will be considered.

Submission Deadline: 30 January 2020
1. Application documents (form below - not exceeding 6 pages including CVs) must be submitted as a single PDF
2. Applications must be sent to research.health@uct.ac.za by 30th Jan 2020
3. Ranking by Departmental Research Committees (DRC): All proposals should be ranked by the DRCs before reaching the FRC. The Faculty Research Office will coordinate DRC ranking and review process.
