New work gives insight into a possible mechanism for immune and other health defects in HIV-1 exposed, uninfected infants. These defects remain incompletely understood, for more information, please refer to these and other studies: Afran et al 2014, Arikawa et al 2016. UCT Immunology researcher Dr. Heather Jaspan contributed to this work. Levels of Ochratoxin A, a natural and common food contaminant, are associated with T cell activation in HIV-1 exposed, uninfected infants.
