Shareefa co-leads the Psychiatric Neurogenetics Group of UCT’s Centre for Brain-Behaviour (https://health.uct.ac.za/department-psychiatry/research-research-units/brain-behaviour-unit) and the Systems Biology Subgroup of the PGC-PTSD (https://pgc.unc.edu/for-researchers/working-groups/ptsd-working-group/). She is a member of the UCT Neuroscience Institute (https://neuroscience.uct.ac.za/our-members) and has a Y2 rating from the National Research Foundation.

Active research:  Shareefa’s research is focused on the genetic and environmental risk factors for physical and mental health disorders. She is also interested in systems biology approaches, particularly multi-omic integration methods for complex disorders.
