Doreen Mhandire
Research Project: Host genetics, microbiome profiles and antiretroviral therapy exposure on CMV acquisition, vertical transmission and disease outcomes in mother-infant pairs
Doreen is a PhD student in the Division of Human Genetics under the Pharmacogenetics and C Drug metabolism research group led by Professor Collet Dandara. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (Honours) degree from the University of Zimbabwe in 2011. She developed interest in the Pharmacogenetics of HIV treatment during her MSc training at the same university where she completed an MPhil on the role of CYP2B6 gene variants on plasma nevirapine in 2015. During her MPhil studies, she enjoyed support from the UCT Pharmacogenetics and Drug metabolism research group through collaboration with the University of Zimbabwe leading to her joining the group as a PhD student in 2016. Doreen has several publications in peer reviewed journals.
