Dr Varushka Bachan obtained her undergraduate medical degree from the University of Cape Town in 2006. She has worked locally and internationally in Trauma and Emergency Medicine before returning to UCT to join the Division of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, where she completed her specialist training in 2022. Her research involved post-mortem blood alcohol levels in injury related mortality during the COVID-19 nationwide lockdown period. She is currently a Specialist Forensic Pathologist and Lecturer at UCT and OFPI.
