Our Division provides Forensic Pathology services to the Cape Metropole. Murder is rife, with the country’s murder capital, Nyanga, falling within our service area. Dr Itumeleng Molefe, a consultant pathologist in our division has a special interest in femicides and rape- homicide cases. Her MMed thesis was entitled “A 10-year retrospective study of epidemiology and analysis of patterns of femicide and rape homicide in Cape Town: A follow- up study”. On the 9^th of September 2016, she presented her findings at the WHO/ SAVI International Conference on Violence Prevention, held at the Atlantic Imbizo. The research results not only evoked shock amongst delegates, but also ignited media interest, such that the following Thursday she was featured on Cape Talk's Night Show, hosted by Koketso Sachane.
