Although UCT does not offer a specific undergraduate degree course in bioinformatics, a Bioinformatics stream is available for students with dual majors in computer science and biological sciences and who complete a third year bioinformatics project. CBIO teaches a bioinformatics module to molecular medicine students in the third year of the MBChB program.
For students who wish to pursue a career in bioinformatics, we strongly recommend taking a combination of relevant subjects, including biochemistry/microbiology/genetics, mathematics, statistics and computer science.
