CRC Director

Prof Chris Scott is a Paediatric Rheumatologist from Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and has a background working and advocating in ultra-rare diseases, like Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP). Prof Scott worked with the CRC as a Principal Investigator on several trials since 2014, before being appointed as the CRC Director in 2022.

 

 

Administrative Assistant

Sharon Ferguson has worked at UCT Faculty of Health Sciences since 2006 and is the backbone of the CRC, taking care of a myriad of support functions.

 

 

CRC Operations Manager

Annemie Stewart is an MPH (Epidemiology) graduate and has worked at UCT since 2012. She was a Data Manager in pharmacovigilance and later clinical trials, before being appointed as the CRC Operations Manager in 2020.

 

 

Research Pharmacist

Henriette Kyepa, an MPH graduate, joined the CRC in 2020 during lockdown after working in several clinical trials since 2017.

 

 

Research Pharmacist

Fathima Docrat started working in clinical trials in 2020 and was quickly promoted to being the Lead Pharmacist on the national WHO SOLIDARITY trial, coordinating all the pharmacies from Wits where she was based at the time. Fathima joined the CRC in 2022. Fathima is studying towards an MPH.

 

 

Clinical Trial Coordinator

Sr Bonita Williams has worked in clinical trials since 2013 and is focussed on Oncology trials in particular. Bonita joined the CRC in 2018.

Sr Rene Williams has worked in clinical trials in the UK since 1999 before moving back to South Africa and joining the CRC in 2018.

Sr Zimasa Gcwabe has worked in clinical trials since 2015 and joined the CRC in 2022.

Sr Nolene Bauer is a very experienced clinical research nurse and phlebotomist, and joined the CRC in 2021.

Nazmie Pearce has worked in data administration for clinical trials since 2010 and is the quality champion in the CRC since 2022.

Kashiefa Prins joined the CRC in 2015 as a data and laboratory assistant.

Sivuyile Buhlungu worked in clinical trials as a Clinical Research Worker since 2020 before joining the CRC as a data and laboratory assistant in 2022.

Trevor Mafu is ‘finishing up his PhD’ since 2017 and working part-time in the CRC as laboratory assistant for clinical trials as well as observational clinical research projects and registries.

 

 

Research Governance Officer

Theo Cwaile is B.Med.Sc.Hons Clinical Anatomy graduate from the University of the Free State. Theo has worked in health research since 2012 and assists the CRC with HREC, SAHPRA and other regulatory affairs.
