The Harry Crossley Children's Nursing Development Unit (CNDU) is currently a sectoral leader and resource hub capacitating partner in children’s nursing education throughout southern and east Africa. This transborder network has become known as the Children's Nursing Educators Forum.
In 2015, CNDU hosted a workshop for children’s nursing educators from across South Africa to support the process of redesigning programmes to meet new national regulatory requirements. This successful session led to requests for another meeting the following year, and another. In 2017 and 2018 nurses in training at UCT from Namibia and Zambia were able to attend, and we realised how much joint learning was enhanced through the participation of colleagues from other African countries. This realisation encouraged us to 'throw the net wider' and in September 2019, we welcomed nurses from 7 different countries to the Forum. This engagement continued annually in Cape Town until 2020 when, prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Forum moved online and meetings increased to three times a year.
Purpose: to create a community of practice connecting, supporting and growing children’s nursing educators.
