In the Harry Crossley Children's Nursing Development Unit (CNDU), we work to support children’s nursing educators and institutions to build sustainable, contextually appropriate and high-quality educational training programmes.

When CNDU was established, South Africa was the only country in southern and eastern Africa training children’s nurses. Since 2009 our team has been honoured to partner with and support teams in the creation of many new children’s nursing training programmes at both PG Dip and Masters level.

Key activities in this area of our work include:

  • The Children's Nursing Educators Forum – a community of practice, established in 2015, that connects children’s nursing educators in southern and east Africa and increasingly beyond.
  • Coordinating the Children’s Nursing Workforce Observatory – an open science project making data about children’s nursing education activity visible.
  • Supporting educators and institutions to develop systems and processes to ensure good governance in postgraduate training. Our 5-step Capability Maturity Modeldeveloped from this work, continues to provide and guide best practice.
