Academic Reading - considering what we read and how often
This was the theme for the first Children’s Nursing Educators Forum for 2024, held on the 6th of March. The online meeting brought together twenty-one members from nine different countries across the continent.
An introduction to the different Journal Club formats used over time by The Children’s Nursing Development Unit, was presented by Lee-Ann White. Busisiwe Jama, Nina Power and Ilana Webber then discussed the current Open Access, Journal Club the Unit currently produce. Nina gave an overview of how articles are sourced, ensuring their quality, that they are context specific and current. Once summarised she will then hand over to Busisiwe, who explained the process of developing an online video of the article summary, for YouTube. Lastly Ilana described the production of an infographic which accompanies the article and video summary. Members were encouraged to access this freely available resource and given ideas of how it could be used in their settings. A valuable discussion was then had around this topic.
Breakout rooms followed this presentation to allow for conversation time. Members discussed what they enjoy about being an educator. This allowed for a time of connection and was most enjoyable.
Members were encouraged to join the CNEF WhatsApp group to further stay connected.
This year we will have four meetings as a group and members were encouraged to submit ideas for these meeting themes. Next meeting will be held in May.
