From Shoreline to Lifeline: Anchoring Critical Care in Excellence
Family Involvement in Paediatric Intensive Care Units
Ilana Webber flew the Harry Crossley CNDU flag high at the Critical Care Society of South Africa congress in Durban last week! The theme, “From Shoreline to Lifeline: Anchoring Critical Care in Excellence”, set the tone for an inspiring few days of connecting with the critical care community, sharing knowledge, and strengthening networks.
Ilana presented a poster on family involvement in Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) – “How well are we applying (F)amily engagement in the ABCDEF bundle?” – introducing the Care Through Family Model. This model encourages deeper family involvement, helping PICU teams foster connection, reduce distress, and lower the risk of Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS).
The congress created a vibrant space to learn, share and grow together with colleagues passionate about advancing critical care across Africa.
