Newly graduated Dr Richmond Ateko from Ghana
His thesis, co-supervised by Professors David Marais and Dirk Blom, described the prevalence of dysbetalipoproteinaemia (dysbeta) and its predisposing genes in Ghanaian adults living in Accra. He used a unique method to describe lipoprotein particle size, that also detects dysbeta, in the general population as well as in patients with cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
