Titus Mashilo was recently awarded the Max Price and Deborah Posel Postgraduate Scholarship which was established to provide support to exceptional and talented South African and permanent resident postgraduate students to pursue study and career paths as academics and specialists in their fields by supporting the pipeline towards doctoral studies. Titus is currently a MSc (Medicine) student in the division of Chemical Pathology and his research project involves determining the mitochondrial DNA copy number in a cohort of type 2 diabetic patients, with and without target organ damage.

The main eligibility criteria for the scholarship was that the Heads of Departments (HODs) had to nominate one exceptional and talented first-year masters candidate per department based on their academic excellence, future intentions, leadership capabilities, community engagement and ability of the candidate to complete the degree. Dr Jody Rusch nominated Titus because he believed that he ticked all of these boxes. Titus received the good news that he had been awarded the scholarship on the 1st of June.

Congratulations Titus!
