The MARC SE-Africa toolkit is a catalogue representing a comprehensive list of
126 curated and collated resources and tools to combat antimalarial resistance, including:
-
curated and reviewed web-based applications,
-
standard operating procedures, reference manuals,
-
literature covering a wide range of topics to aid the fight against antimalarial resistance.
Summary of tools and resources included in the toolkit
In Southern and Eastern Africa, malaria poses one of the world's most significant health burdens. The MARC SE-Africa antimalarial resistance dashboard is an innovative tool for showcasing data needed to combat malaria and the emergence of antimalarial resistance in the region.
This dashboard was developed at the request of national malaria programmes and their partners. It offers a user-friendly interface that supports research and policy development and facilitates a coordinated response to drug-resistant malaria at national, sub-national, and regional levels.
The tool equips national malaria control programs and other critical stakeholders with the latest data, empowering them to respond proactively to emerging antimalarial resistance across 19 endemic countries. By doing this, the platform has the potential to transform the landscape of malaria control.

Malaria resistance profiles for South-East African countries
We have created malaria resistance profiles for South-East African countries. For each country, we have gathered the information on:
the general overview of the recent state of malaria in the country, including information on malaria incidence and number of malaria-related deaths
antimalarial therapeutic efficacy studies, which offer information on the effectiveness of antimalarial drugs molecular markers of resistance references and additional resources
Smart surveillance for malaria elimination
Antimalarial drug resistance is one of the biggest threats to the control and eventual elimination of malaria. SS4ME, led by CCOAT, is a pilot study to link and map malaria notifications and molecular markers of drug resistance data.
GPS tools
As accurate GPS (global positioning system) coordinates of malaria cases are fundamental for malaria case investigation and surveillance, we developed training materials to empower case investigators in good and well-informed practice to perform case investigation using GPS devices.
