We are pleased to share that, during the recently concluded UCT graduation season (27-31 March 2023),

Aida Kawuma graduated with a PhD. Aida’s thesis employed mathematical modelling to improve HIV treatment using data from healthy volunteers and people living with HIV, some also co-infected with tuberculosis. She characterized the pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenetics of dolutegravir and focused on its drug-drug interaction with the anti-tuberculosis drugs rifampicin and rifabutin and with the anti-malarial drugs artemether-lumefantrine and artesunate-amodiaquine.

Aida has now returned to her home country, Uganda, where she is currently developing her pharmacometrics career as a post-doctoral researcher at the Infectious Diseases Institute of Makerere University (IDI).

We are proud of Aida and hope to continue to grow the relationship that our unit has nurtured with IDI.
