Finished PhD Theses
Two of our students, Mahmoud Abdelwahab and Tjokosela Tikoso, have completed their PhD theses.
Mahmoud joined our group in March 2018 and he just finished his PhD in March 2021. Mahmoud’s work mainly focused on drugs used for the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis. His main research topics include population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modelling of clofazimine, linezolid and pretomanid. He recently got awarded Fogarty postdoctoral fellowship (HIV-associated TB Training Program), where he will work on characterizing pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs used for tuberculosis meningitis.
Tjokosela joined our group in 2016 and finished his thesis end of 2020. In his thesis, he focused on understanding factors that influence concentrations of HIV and TB drugs in children. His work mainly focused on the interaction between HIV and TB drugs when administered together. Tjokosela was also involved in the development of a paediatric dosing tool using Shiny software that is able to predict exposure for a generic drug. The tool can also be used to simulate entire pharmacokinetic profiles by using a drug-specific population pharmacokinetic model.
We are very happy that Mahmoud have chosen to stay within our group as a postdoctoral fellow, and to Tjokosela we wish the best of luck with future endeavors!
