Faatima is an occupational therapist who has been in clinical practice in the field of paediatrics for over 20 years. She has extensive experience in early childhood development, special needs and disability including working in vulnerable communities. She has experiences across the areas of public, private and NGO service delivery within the education and health sectors of South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Faatima is passionate about teaching and learning. She completed a master’s degree in occupational therapy at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Her postgraduate training has shifted her focus towards more population-based approaches to addressing child and caregiver health and well-being in Africa and she is motivated to develop capacity in research and evidence-based intervention that supports this. This shift to academia has allowed her to support other post graduate students across various faculties at UCT to complete their dissertations. She has joined this unit in the capacity of Research Officer focusing on student teaching and learning in the field of clinical research. In this way she is staying true to her life’s purpose of developing the capabilities of others to engage in the occupations that they find meaningful.
