Ilana is an experienced specialist children’s critical care nurse with 16 years of experience, most of which is in critical care settings at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.  She graduated cum laude with the first UCT cohort of Clinical Masters in Children’s Nursing in 2017. She developed an evidence-based guideline for the prevention and treatment of catheter related infections and peritonitis in children on peritoneal dialysis. After graduating she worked as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital where she coordinated the Peritoneal dialysis program that involved patient assessment, overall care and follow-up as well as caregiver and staff training on how to care for a child receiving PD.

Ilana has a deep capacity to see the perspective of others. This, alongside a passionate for children and their wellbeing and the deeply held belief that children should have access to appropriate, safe and quality care, all the time, every time, makes her an asset as a lecture in Children’s Nursing Development Unit and in the DPCH. This unit will provide her the platform for growing and stimulating the minds and actions of this and the next generation of children’s nurses.
