The Albertina & Walter Sisulu Institute of Ageing (IAA) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) was designated as a Collaborating Centre of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG) in April 2009 for a renewable four-year period.

The IAGG requires such centres to be an officially recognised, university-based, and multidisciplinary research unit that offers a regular training programme. Furthermore, the IAA successfully provided evidence of productivity in the form of peer-reviewed publications and evidence of sustainability in the form of a multi-year budget, professional and support staff, and multiple research affiliates.

About the IAGG: The mission of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics is to promote the highest levels of achievement in gerontological research and training worldwide and to interact with other international, inter-governmental and non-governmental organisations in the promotion of gerontological interests globally and on behalf of its member associations. The Association pursues these activities with a view of enhancing the highest quality of life and well-being of all people as they experience ageing at individual and societal levels.
