Dr Sebastiana Kalula, Director of the Albertina and Walter Sisulu Institute of Ageing in Africa at the University of Cape Town and Director of the International Longevity Centre South Africa (ILC), participated in the 4th Berlin Demography Forum (BDF) held in Berlin, Germany on March 18–20, 2015. The theme of the forum was "Activity – Health – Participation".

Dr Kalula was a panelist in the discussion titled "A Global Comparison on Healthy Aging", convened by Dr Ursula Staudinger and Dr Axel Borsch-Supan, Presidents of ILC USA and ILC Germany, respectively. The panel discussion formed part of an ongoing multi-centre project investigating the "Health Effects of Retirement" in ILC Global Alliance participating countries. The project aims to shed light on the impact of age at retirement on health in the countries.

About the BDF: The Berlin Demography Forum (BDF) is a global, cross-party platform providing a new impetus to raise the general public’s awareness of the significance of demographic change both at a national and international level. The forum brings together high-ranking politicians, scientists, business leaders, and representatives of international organisations and civil society to discuss potential solutions and contribute to this important debate. For more details, see the BDF's Ideas and Objectives.
