CIDRI-Africa holds 7th Annual Scientific Meeting in Somerset West
The 7th CIDRI-Africa Annual Scientific Meeting was held from 17-19 July 2024 in Somerset West. Some 70 delegates met to discuss and celebrate the people and research of the Centre. Centre Director Prof. Robert J Wilkinson opened the meeting by welcoming attendees and celebrating the achievements of junior investigators.
The programme highlighted the contributions of early career researchers, and included breakaway sessions on “measuring and valuing research and researchers” and platform strategy.
Two new Contributing Investigators spoke at the meeting for the first time; Dr Ruan Marais and Dr Munya Musvosvi, presented on “Clinical data assembly” and “Developing a microfluidic-based immune monitoring platform for tuberculosis biomarker translation” respectively.
CIDRI-Africa welcomed several new members of the External Advisory Board at the meeting; the board is now composed of: Dr Vivianne Goosens, Prof. Ravi Gupta, Prof. Penny Moore, Prof. Isabella Oyier, and Prof. Eric Rubin. Prof. Charles Bangham, the outgoing chair of the board, attended his valedictory meeting.
