CIDRI-Africa supports 1st International Symposium on New Concepts in Early TB Disease
CIDRI-Africa is pleased to have been able to support the 1st International Symposium on New Concepts in Early TB Disease through sponsorship of the conference venue and accommodation. Several CIDRI-Africa Principal and Contributing Investigators served on the scientific organizing committee, or attended as delegates and presented in workshops. PhD candidates and Postdoctoral Fellows in the Western Cape were also supported, participating in the meeting and serving as rapporteurs to ensure maximal benefit from the opportunity to network and converse with leading experts in the field.
The meeting provided a valuable platform for global collaboration, with the 60 delegates coming from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North and South America, and representing researchers, patient advocates, and policy advisors. Major funders and research partners also participated, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND), the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the Stop TB Partnership, the Wellcome Trust, and the World Health Organization (WHO).
In addition to CIDRI-Africa, the meeting received financial support from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and BMGF.
A position statement summarizing the consensus outcomes of the meeting and future research directions is in preparation. Watch this space for further updates!
