Let’s celebrate the publication of the article ‘Community of Inquiry: Guided Design of Asynchronous Online Continuing Professional Development for Pediatric Nurses’ in The Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing. Co-authored by the Children’s Nursing Development Unit (CNDU) team and Dr. Laurie Posey from the School of Nursing at George Washington University (US), this article highlights how CNDU educators effectively used the Community of Inquiry (COI) framework to design the asynchronous Essentials of Nursing Children online short courses, ensuring participants engage in deep and meaningful learning. It offers a detailed description of the COI framework, with specific examples of how the three COI presences—teaching, cognitive, and social—are integrated into the courses.

The paper is fully open access, and we hope it inspires others in the Africa region through its detailed description and discussion of the use of the COI framework.
